  5. (2) Why is the universe so uniform on a   
  6.       large scale?  Why does it look the same
  7.       at all points of space and in all        
  8.       directions? In particular, why is the
  9.       temperature of the microwave        
  10.       background radiation so nearly the        
  11.       same when we look in different 
  12.       directions?  It is a bit like asking a 
  13.       number of students an exam question.  
  14.       If they all give exactly the same answer, 
  15.       you can be pretty sure they 
  16.       communicated with each other.  Yet, in 
  17.       the model described above, there would 
  18.       not have been time since the big bang
